Houston Sprockids
IMBA Sprockids clubs offer young people a positive and fun way to get involved in mountain biking while teaching them skills and values that will guide them through life. Sprockids clubs nationwide lead all types of kids’ mountain biking events, including fun rides, skills clinics and races.

GHORBA History with Sprockids
The Houston Sprockids program was founded when GHORBA was called upon by the Houston Parks & Recreations Department and National Parks Service to hold a mountain bike clinic at Sunnyside Park in April of 2003. This clinic was part of a community outreach program to the residents in the area of the future Hill at Sims Greenway Park. This is the park that would have been the Olympic mountain bike venue.
The plans for the park still include mountain bike trails. The clinic was held to introduce the area kids to mountain biking and their families to the park that was scheduled to open in a few years.
As part of this program GHORBA agreed to provide bikes, helmets, curriculum, volunteers and instructors for the clinic. The instructors consisted of GHORBA members, some of whom are nationally ranked expert bicyclists.
The volunteers were individuals from the Sunnyside Community Center and GHORBA members.
As a result of the first clinic GHORBA procured and maintains 20 kids’ mountain bicycles for use in the Sprockids program. GHORBA continually seeks funding or donations of helmets and other necessary equipment.
We also teamed up with the Byke Project and Third Ward Bike Shop to help underprivileged kids get their bikes repaired or even built! If you have parts or bikes that could use a better home, drop them off at one of these organizations for a deductible donation!

The Texas Bicycle Coalition sponsors this great program at all the Texas Mountain Bike Racing Association (TMBRA) races, including our own, the Big Ring Challenge
Skills Clinics
GHORBA skills clinic are great for all ages. If your child can ride on two wheel and has a helmet, she can participate in the clinic! See our clinic page for clinic announcements and sign-up info. Best of all the clinics are free for GHORBA members!
