GHORBA Submits Master Plan Comments to City of Houston Parks Department

We are pleased to hear that quite a few GHORBA members and supporters attended the recent meetings hosted by Houston Parks and Recreation Department (HPARD) to voice their support for more trails.

Several more also submitted written comments—we received a few copies of some very well written letters. You should know that we have spoken to HPARD management and the response from Houston MTB’ers has been noted and that your comments go a long way to influencing the development of the next Master Plan for Houston’s parks.

We also submitted the official GHORBA comments

We will keep in close touch with HPARD to ensure that more trails feature in the new Master Plan.

  2. Thanks Black Diamond Rider. The position of “Free-Ride Trail Steward” is currently vacant. Care to volunteer?

  3. What about the area located West of the railroad tracks and South of Memorial Drive by the Arboretum. Were there ever trails there? Can you access them or rebuild them?

  4. Are you talking about the Triangle? These are advanced trails, with potential for more—a bit of contour exists. I’m not aware that there were any trails south of Memorial and west of the tracks, except for the Triangle south entrance by the Arboretum driveway.

  5. Do you mean the trails south of Woodway and west of 610? If so, they were called Area 51. I heard about them a few months ago. A couple of us went out there to try and find the trails and it was all blocked off. We found a way in but all the trails were overgrown. There is a lot of land back there that has GREAT potential.

  6. The trails at Area 51 were illegally built and are now permanently closed. If you have not ridden the triangle, you should. There is a lot more potential up there (west of railroad tracks, north of Woodway/Memorial). Enter by Arboretum turnoff from Woodway and pass through tunnel. That is, once it’s not underwater anymore :-(
