Memorial Park

Memorial Park is a beautiful green forest surrounded by the concrete jungle of Houston, Texas. For years this area was well known around the country as the best urban trails in the United States.

They still are one of the best places to ride in Houston, we just don’t have as many miles to ride as before. The trails have been shortened and sanitized in the mid-1990’s but are still great.

Park in the lot west of the baseball fields near the rugby/soccer field and follow the double track along the soccer field back to the single track.

Use caution as these are two way trails and busy. The trails are color coded and there are maps at the trailhead signs.

2005 saw the re-opening of part of the “Triangle” extension (aka “Infantry Woods”). This is an advanced trail that requires more bike handling skills and strong legs. To get to it, drop-in off the sidewalk near the Arboretum entrance, then go through the tunnel under Woodway. Wind your way east and, after 2 more tunnels, exit at the train tracks. Turn around, ride in reverse (the Triangle is not on on the map below).

We are looking for volunteers to help plan, advocate and physically work on further extensions to the Triangle. If you want to help, please see the GHORBA calendar for work parties.

The GHORBA calendar also has the GHORBA group ride info for Memorial Park.
