2008 Big Ring Challenge This Weekend! Additional Info

Traffic on I-59 Heading North

Google Map
Hello Houstonians. Please check out Google traffic before heading straight up 59. There is major backups and construction going on before and around Splendora. Alternate routes would be up 45, take a right on 1097 in Willis. Go right at hwy 150. Turn Right on 2025, Double Lake is on Left about 1/4 mile.

Race registration and group camping

Pre-registration is closed, but you can register on site Saturday and Sunday, up to one hour before your class start. Registration is at the lodge, where you can also reserve a $10 spot for your car or tent in the group parking area if you didn’t snag one during pre-registration.

The group tent area is first come, first served, so if you arrive late there may be only room for your tent in the group area, which is close to the finish. Land use fees are separate and payable to the park upon entrance.

Saturday Fun Stuff and Raffle

All the fun stuff from last year, including Kids Kup, Lumberjack Challenge, Huffy Toss, Ghost Rider (latter two organized by our sponsor Planetary Cycles), movie night and bottomless beers. Bring yer’ lights for a night ride as well!

Our title sponsor, Bikeland, is bringing bikes to demo on the trails.

Buy some raffle tickets to win a sweet $2500 Orbea bike, donated by our sponsor Sugar Cycles!

Big Ring Challenge Saturday Movie Night

Race course and Distances

The start is near the lodge, heading North up the road for a bit. Then it takes a sharp left turn into the forest singletrack. You practically can’t get lost.

Remember the trails at Double Lake are coarse sand that drain fast, so this rain we’ve been getting today will really help.

Each loop is about 7-8 miles of wooded, 95% single-track with rolling, minor elevations.

We are not racing over the dam or spillway this year, due to structural problems with the dam.
