2007 Big Ring Challenge Camping Info

Directions to Double Lake

Camping

We have tent camping group spots available for only $10 per car, all near the lodge. Reserve yours via the pre-registration site if you want a group spot (see the bottom of the page for “merchandise”). This guarantees you a tent and parking spot close to the race starting area. This is a bargain, compared to $16/night and 2 night minimum through Reserve America.

You can also try your luck and reserve individual camping spots directly. Visit Recreation.gov and book it yourself.

Note: The park entry fee is separate from campsite fees and is payable at entry.

RVs and Camp Trailers

You have two options. RV’s & trailer spots can be difficult to reserve, but the park has a number of spots that are NOT reservable online. That is, they are used for First Come First Served. We are still clarifying this, but you might be able to call a couple of HOURS in advance and check availability. Below is the number for the park. If you are part of a team, we might be allowed to park your RV in the Team area. Do not call the Park until we clarify this information.

Double Lake information: 936-653-3448

Team Trailers

Contact racing@ghorba.org to reserve a first-come, first served team area in the awards area near the lodge. If you have an RV, see the comment above.

Lodging and Dining

There are some rooms available in Coldspring, just next door to Double Lake. Ask for the Double Lake race discount. Fellow GHORBA member Rocky has posted good info about the Double Lake lodging and dining options on our forum

  1. I talked with the park about RV camping. They told me that you cannot call ahead to reserve the non-reservable sites. You have to be there, first-come-first-served. Also, they said that they would not allow RV’s to be parked in the general parking area. So, is this true, or do they really allow RV’s to be parked in the parking area?

  2. We’ll clear that with the park real soon. Sorry for the confusion.

  3. RV clarifications: You cannot call up there serveral days and request an RV spot, but you can serveral HOURS in advance. As mentioned in the comment above, you can park your RV in the overflow parking, but don’t expect to sleep there…so you might ask what’s the point then. I wish I could tell you. At this point we have to respect the local managers rules. If you have a team RV, there should be room for a few in the team area, but again like the comment above – don’t sleep in it, or let them or us know you slept in it. We have tent camping spots for up to 250.
