Dear GHORBA Board, Members, & Friends,
Thank you for the nomination and appointment as interim Membership Director for GHORBA. As many of you know, I've been assisting the board with special projects and community advocacy these past few years. I'm pleased that that good working relationship will continue in my new role.
The first time I joined GHORBA was in the early 90's, when my future husband and I were biking in Memorial Park. There was a sign at the trail head offering a map if you mailed in a membership check to GHORBA. There was no application, just an address and you had to mail a letter and SASE asking for membership and map. They sent a map and that was that. Later, they published trail books that you could buy in local bike and book stores. I bought several of those books and I bet many of you have too.
Wow! Has GHORBA grown and technology changed. There are currently over 15 trails that GHORBA manages and several new trail systems in the making.
The reasons for joining GHORBA has changed also. As Membership Director, I'll strive to make the benefits being a member both fun and rewarding so that you, current and future members, take your off-road biking adventures to the next level.
Membership is important. Most of these area trails have multiple land owners and decision makers. I've been in several meetings and one of the first questions they ask is 'How many people do you represent?' followed by, 'How long have you been around?', etc.
Membership has benefits. For $25 individual ($35 family), you become part of a group that believes, just like you, that area mountain biking trails are important. Further, your membership card will get you 10% off regular priced items at a dozen local bike stores (many with multiple locations!). So your membership actually pays you back!

On a personal note, I'm a native Houstonian, married with 3 children. The majority of my career has been in as a national recruiter for the medical diagnostics industry. I enjoy volunteering and have been in leadership positions with my children's PTAs, various kids sports & hobbies, Girls Scouts, and Junior League. My first off-road bike was a 'boy's bike', a black & yellow Mongoose my parents bought for me when I was 11 so I could ride to Astroworld, the zoo, and keep up with summer evening razor-blade kite fights at the back of local soccer fields. Myself and family have MTB'd in Georgia, South Carolina, the Ozarks, Louisiana, and all over Texas. My local trails are Cypress Creek/100 Acre Woods where we have lived & enjoyed the trails since 2002.
Thank you again and I look forward to an exciting year with GHORBA! And if you haven't already, join GHORBA today!
