Kevin Highfield

Position:
VP & Advocacy Director

Kevin has been an active trail rider since 2002 and first joined the GHORBA board in 2005.  His trail advocacy work started in 2003, when he started work to save Cypresswood Trail from development, working with GHORBA and quickly building relationships with local government agencies.  Since then, he has lead and supported several projects - making Cypresswood and Anthills official trails; establishing Carl Barton Jr. and Flintridge Trails; obtaining large grants to build the expansions at Double Lake and Huntsville, among other things.  He's been an active racer since 2003, competing in TMBRA events all over Texas.  Kevin works with Rafael leading the Big Ring Challenge and, in 2015, helping to establish the Bigger Ring Challenge (marathon race).  Kevin was the mountain bike representative on the Texas Trails Advisory Board, the TMBRA Paydirt coordinator from 2012 - 2015 and was awarded the Presidents Volunteer Service Award in 2009..  He currently also serves on the board of the Sam Houston Trails Coalition as the cycling representative, and he continues to work on improving bicycle access in the Sam Houston National Forest.  Kevin has re-joined the GHORBA board in 2015 to renew his local advocacy activity and support new leadership.  Kevin lives on the north side of town between Cypresswood and Cypress Creek Trails - you'll most often see him out there doing "the double" - as he gets older his mileage seems to be going up!
